It is important to remember that the Spectra Caries Detector uses reflected light to create its readings. Things like the angle of the Spectra, excess saliva on the tooth and intrusion of ambient light can affect the reflected light and cause unexpected readings.
-
-
- Make sure the tooth is clean and dry.
- The spacers provided with your Spectra are not just a stylish accessory; it places the head of the Spectra and its detector at the optimal focal distance to get a good reading. Make sure the spacer is sitting flat against the occlusal surface of the tooth.
- The spacer also acts to block out ambient room light, which can affect your readings. Again, make sure you are using your spacer.
- Make sure the area of the tooth you are interested in assessing is in the center of your image, this will help with consistent readings.
The Elara and Spectra use the power provided by your computer’s USB to operate. The amps provided by the USB port is limited to 500ma and certain conditions can cause the amp draw of the camera to exceed this.
-
-
- Are you using a hub to plug multiple devices into a single USB port on your PC? Remember all of those devices are also using the power provided by the USB hub and there may not be enough left for your Camera.
- Are you using a USB extension cable? Did you know that the longer a conductor is the more resistance it has. The increased resistance results in a greater amperage draw to provide the same amount of power. Your extension may be robbing your Camera of power.
