What are gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria?

Example for gram-positive bacteria is Staphylococcus aureus.
Example for gram-negative bacteria is Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Gram-negative bacteria are much harder to kill because of their double membrane (see image below).
