Sensors display images almost instantly after exposure, while ScanX PSP Image Plates require a quick digitization step. At first glance, this makes sensors seem like the faster option.

• Sensors must be retrieved, untangled, covered with a hygienic protective sleeve, and connected to a USB port that is often hard to reach before use.

• Placement takes longer with sensors due to cable interference and difficult anatomies, often increasing the need for retakes.

• Post-acquisition: The protective cover is removed, the cable disinfected and coiled, then everything must be stored, requiring extra time and space.

*After all, in cases in which the X-ray unit is located in a central X-ray room the advantage that sensors offer in terms of the short time between image exposure and the image appearing on the screen is completely irrelevant because the time taken by the patient to go back to the treatment room completely negates any gains. In these situations, image plate technology can actually be faster overall.
